Stretch carpet lining

Hi,

Slowly getting all the materials sourced for the interior rebuild. Going to have the headlining going down to pillars a little with either a carpet lining the rest of the walls or some fluted vinyl, not yet made my mind up. Anyway, I have found that the more I research in to the carpet lining the more confusing it gets, 4 way stretch, 2 way stretch, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, self adhesive, non self adhesive, ribbed or not ribbed and so on. Would like to here from other peoples experience on what they prefer and wether their choices have lasted the test of oil stain removal, beer splashes, bacon smells etc and how easy they found it to fit in the first place.

Any advice gladly recieved

I used Trim Velour from MegaVanMats. From the description on their website, Trim Velour and Mega Stretch both seem to be equivalent, so I chose Trim Velour because I preferred one of the colours. I did get a couple of sample cards before buying, and I have to say that the Mega Stretch did feel as though it might stretch a bit easier, but since I only planned to do flat areas that didn't bother me.

Having covered my ply lining boards/door cards and the battery box areas, I can say that the 4mm Trim Velour goes on well, and is nice and thick so it should be resilient. There's no way you can see through it for instance. I'd be doubtful about how stretchy it is though. I haven't tried shaping it over any curved surfaces, but if you try to pull it apart it doesn't seem to stretch very much - not as much as the Mega Stretch samples anyway. MVM claim it's good for doing curved surfaces, so perhaps I shouldn't disagree, given that I haven't actually tried.

I've also realised that 4mm is perhaps a bit thick for the ply panels - once it's folded round the edges the original panel clips have a job to hold the panels to the body. I gave up and went for fir tree clips in the end, but they aren't totally flush on the inner side. I have a feeling Mega Stretch is a fraction thinner, despite both being nominally 4mm.

I used the anthracite mega stretch from mega van mats and its easy to apply , easy to stretch around curves I also used their adhesive

I have looked at megavan mats myself and I do like the look of the anthracite, what I have been really interested in though is the self adhesive lining from as-trim. Be nice not to have to deal with the adhesive fumes, however they only supply it in two colours black and grey.

to be honest I never really noticed the fumes , the adhesive mega van mats sell is high temperature stuff which I think you need to stop the carpet from coming loose , mines been in about 18 months now and its the same as when I fitted it

Thats put a little more of my confidence in the material, headlining material turned up today along with the witches hats things so all systems go fairly soonish, cheers

Windows and doors open, no trouble with mega van mats spray high temp glue.
I've used silver mega stretch around the windows and anthracite on rear cards and seat boxes dead easy to make look good.
