It seems cheap to me.... I had one as a company car for 4 years, best car I have ever had.
The warning light and limp mode could be the DPF ( diesel particulate filter ) very common on the 170 and others.... cheapest fix is to remove it and get a remap . The car will run far better without it, around £700 iirc , about half the cost of a new DPF
The engines are bullet proof, the injection and associated parts can be the fragile bit... made me laugh that some people consider a car under 6 years old to be old
Does it look clean and tidy ? in my experience a clean and tidy looking one will always sell well. If you got it and had it fixed foe around £2.5 k , you could use it and enjoy it for a couple of years and still not loose much money.
If its the 170 BHP then its a proper quick car, 0-60 in under 8 seconds and top speed over 140 mph. Lots of people in the trade rate these over the GTI petrol, and round the twisties the torque will keep you ahead of one on the road.
Sold mine trade to a mate with a garage, he has sold it and bought it back a couple of times... last time it was sold a year ago with 150000 miles he got £5k for it.( mine was a 2006 170 BHP GT with all the extra's)
Its a Golf, always worth more than other marks. Yes the mileage is hi, but how many of us have that kinda mileage on our vans, and be honest none of the engines from the 80's are anywhere near as good. It has a galvanised body so no rust either. I bet it has FSH too ?
worth considering, if it came through my local auction I would put my hand up for it.
