intake air temp sender - TDI

Post by keith »

MV engineering supplied boss to take the sender.

I didn't have any decent 50mm pipe handy so gave it to one of our apprentices to make me a pipe out of 2mm aluminium sheet...rolled into a tube...then TIGed....and then TIGed the boss on.
slight flare on the ends....and all dressed off.

it now looks like this.

hi

this is for the air intake temp sender......out of the charge cooler...just before the inlet manifold.

previously my van had a golf plastic housing that I cut down to fit.....it was floppy and squashed....and blew off on the way back from Dover.

I think this is the way fwd.

yep, same for me i had a old cut down bit of pipe. Mines different because it does air inlet temp and pressure. I think your pressure is a hose into ECU.

Where did you source this little beauty Lloydy? Is it the same size as the original AFN boost pipe?

hi, from here http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/conten ... uct=FMMAPT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It is a bigger size than the AFN inlet manifold, i have a PD inlet manifold and chargecooler with same diameter connections, so it was perfect for me

Thanks for that. Is the PD inlet rated as being a worthwhile upgrade?

I don't think you'd notice a difference... I got it and a a EGR delete(race) pipe so all my boost pipework from chargecooler to inlet was the same continuous size, otherwise you seem to from small turbo, increase size to the c/cooler then back down to the the inlet. and that didn't fit in with my ocd brain :D

Your approach makes perfect sense to me and the Forge sensor boss looks good quality so now I'm wondering what effect the change in diameters of the pipework would have if used with a standard AFN inlet. 51mm intercooler to 60mm sensor pipe back down to 51mm inlet manifold. Would the air care?

:D
Worth bearing in mind, that the forge one came with boss's for different size MAP sensors.. The darkside one seems to be one size, Might be worth sending him a email asking if its right for a AFN/AHU. worst case it would mean drilling the hole out a bit...
