Just to be annoying, why not semi-synthetic?
And YES every 6 months.. It cost very little and takes next to no time, it takes me longer to take the old oil to the dump (sorry recycling center). The ground clearance is so good I don’t even need a jack.
Ultimately, are we not all air cooled?

The colour scheme & layout certainly look familiar Circa 80's VAG although I personally don't remember this one? maybe literature that was made for the consumer market perhaps?
The only time/mileage advice that I remember was yearly but 'interim' servicing (lube service) was the norm in the early to mid 80's giving way to 'One Annual service' late 80's ???? I suspect with the introduction of longer life 'Semi' synthetic oils but can't be sure if this was applied across the VAG range.
Clearly the information does indicate twice yearly oil changes.....has the booklet a print run date or version number?

Service interval is 6,000 ... but I change our's by ear, which on lpg is between 3,000-4,000 miles with a Mann filter every 2nd change. Running on gas the oil doesn't have the carbon deposits to block the filter.

Oil is cheap, engines less so.

Not being funny here ;
How do you "change oil by ear " Ian ?
Does the engine just get noisier on the tappets when its due a change or what ?

Sorry, only just noticed your post ..

I used to drive the same route to work every day in The Bus and at a certain point I passed through a small village (Middleton-by-Wirksworth) and with the narrow street and houses on both sides I could hear the engine clearer. Yes the engine tone changed at between 3,000 and 4,000 miles miles so I knew it was time to change the oil :wink:

Now I use a Passat to commute normally and don't do the 18,000 miles in the van so I change the oil twice a year ... once at pre-MOT time at the end of January and once at the end of July before the summer jaunt.
