Maybe not the answer but I chucked molyslip in the box and it made a great difference.

Grease all the bushes, I expect you have.

I hadn't considered Molyslip - I'll look into that. Some bits of the linkage are new, and most bits were lubricated when the box was put back in, but I haven't looked at the bits under the floor at the gear stick end. I'm quite happy with the gear change now (it's amazing how much difference it makes to the enjoyment of driving it), but it's tempting to chase perfection. The issue with reverse is, I've realised, just the detent spring, and I guess that's just how they are.

True...my main issue is 3-4 or 4-5 on a 5 speed...(I'm a syncro) the more I use it the more I feel I need to look at the linkage...it stresses me out a bit in traffic to be honest!

What's the opinion on moly slip from the gearbox experts? ....snake oil or a worthy additive?

Regularly change the gear oil (4 litres of Comma SX 75/90 semi-synthetic) if there's still an issue after the oil change then use what-ever you wish but ultimately it's head in the sand I'm afraid.

Oils new as well...it's all new in fact!
