Clutch shudder when weather is damp?

There were a fair amount of Rover P6, SDI and Granadas whizzing around too.
Funny thing is, the modern Skoda VRS they use are faster than all of those.
Who would have thought it from Skoda, because back in those days Skoda was a laughing stock.

Going back a page, agree that was axle tramp on the Marinas not clutch judder, due to no anti-tramp bars at all on early ones, those soft semi-elliptics would wind up into an 'S' shape at the slightest provocation... then let go, then wind up, then...

Well there's a funny thing Harry.
I was driving from North London to Chesham during that time, in the Marina.
Loads of local folk never made it to work in their cars ( fair few Cortinas and Capris, some Renault 5 GTI and the like ).
Marina 1.8, straight over the Chilterns in the snow, no problem. Relatively narrow tyres, lots of torque, pull away in 3rd and keep moving.
It was the only thing that moved apart from the Range Rovers and Land Rovers really.
Marina, much maligned and misunderstood !

Marina, much maligned and misunderstood !

We're all entitled to our opinion...

Mine is that we should have been investing a lot more in engines, suspension and all auto tech areas by then... same as every industry that has died here... lack of employment of the best engineers, or tying their hands, or lack of investment in R&D and the application thereof. Mostly due to profits being siphoned off and not re-invested or the banks and the city failing to take big enough risks And that's not just a tory thing either, labour destroyed our aircraft industry not the tories...

Just to add a penny to the pot. I have had both an LDV pilot and a citroen picasso, Rover 45 TDI, ford cmax, and all have occasionally suffered from this on a damp morning for the first few clutch applications, noticed more if you slipped the clutch to pull away perhaps on ice or up hill etc. The picasso and the LDV were both cars that I changed the clutches on thinking there was an issue only to find perfectly good clutches inside. In both cases I fitted new clutch kits anyway and in the ldv had the flywheel skimmed And I'll be blowed if it didnt still happen on very damp days. My mate who is a heavy plant and HGV mechanic says it is due to damp on the flywheel surface and on the surface of the friction linings which warms and evaporates off in a number of seconds after using said clutch.

LDV could also be axle tramp like the Morris Marina discussion.

... of course a small heater under the bellhousing on damp nights or a silca gel absorbing
pack tucked away would prove the point surely.

... but I can believe damp on the surface as described is very likely the cause.

Or just do an "enthusiastic" bit of extra revs and clutch slipping on first setting off. It was that (well actually an accidental serious abuse of that method, by my wife - see earlier up in this thread) that actually permanently "fixed" the clutch judder on our (now sold) Hi-Top van last year.
