Stuck between a rock & a hard place!!!

Do I have my 1.6td jx repaired or upgrade to 1Y or AAZ (Hens teeth). So many options but looking for some honest general advice without blowing my limited mechanical mind! I hear the jx is fine once set up properly? Number 3 pot burnt out apparently £1000 quoted

Whats your thought on a upgrade to 1Y? Think its worth it or stick with jx! First van and never drove a t25 with a 1.9d or AEF. looking for a resolve before i start playin russian roulette :'(

AAZ engines were fitted in many varieties of cars

Quick search reveals a 1.9 AAZ Passat on fleabay and I didn't bother looking at the rest of the hits. Rocket ship miles mind... Although FWIW my old passat is on 150,000 and till going strong.
