Hi Aidan Many thanks and that was a quick reply :ok ....I've just spoken to him and guess what he has another question......

Does the 0.85 in fifth gear make the rev's very high ? as he's been offered a 3H Gear Box which is 0.816 in fifth gear and 4.83 final drive. What do you think? :)

4.83 x 0.82 = 3.9606
4.57 x 0.85 = 3.8845

smaller the final number higher the gearing, very close to being the same but the ASM is actually nearly 2% longer geared so a 3H will rev even more for the same speed; if it was an AAP then it would have the 0.82 fifth gear and be 5% less revs in that gear than it is now (as fitted to 2.1), what he'll find is the gap between 4th and 5th is quite small and he'll feel he wants another gear, only way to solve that is rebuild the box with a longer fifth gear or find an AAP or go for a flipped passat box or a UN1

which engine has he got ?

Hi Aidan Back again!!

OK He has a MK3 1.9 TD AAZ Code Golf engine and the van previously had a 1.7 Diesel.

He has checked the data on RJES.Com and going by their data the figure's for ASM are the same as ASL. It's doing 3059 RPM @ 60 mile per hour. He's now looking to try a rev counter to check the rev's correctly, hopefully later in the week. Otherwise possibly the choice is to change the 5th AAP spec and put taller tyres on the back :?: :?: .
