well....it didn't go well surprise surprise.

to summarise they did offer to pay a quarter of the cost I paid to them, at that point I was so annoyed I told them to stick it.

Their defence was,

"I told them to use what they liked of the panels.."- if I did I cant remember saying that and if I did, I meant they didn't have to weld in the whole corner! I definitely didn't mean chop it in the middle of the panel so it ruins the whole thing!

"the panels they put in, which I gave them were bent so that's why its all bent" - well I know they weren't bent they were straight as hell and if it was bent id expect a phone call to say hey man this panel is bent you sure you want us to put it in?

I told them I was restoring my van bit by bit and hated the fact it had previously bodged work that was covered in filler, that's why I had the massive panels.

etc etc

Oh and to add insult to injury they asked me if I wanted to fill some small holes in the rear that they found whilst taking the bumper off I said yes please- it will be extra!!!, when I look at what they have done !!!! man they just covered with a plate and left the hole! with rust and all!!

Man these guys SUCK

Sorry to hear that, things can only get better from now on. A general rule of thumb for me is that if the company spell words wrong.. Like "kool" "skool" then keep away.

Looks like they put as much effort into their business cards as they did your van.

Looks like you're going to have to put this one down to experience. You can of course share experiences with other VW forums

I can't believe that has to be the end of it. I think you could benefit from some proper legal advice to know where you stand. Citizen's Advice Bureau might be a good place to start. I'm a member of Which? Legal Services, and they've been invaluable to me on a couple of occasions to help me understand my consumer rights and to help me with what to write in a formal letter - they were instrumental in getting my car insurance company to cough up around £1000 on one occasion after my car was broken into, so I'm quids in on the membership :D. It's a quarterly membership arrangement, but it might be worth you joining up for one quarter.

Hi CJH,

Yeah that is a good idea, I did have it suggested to me that I should speak to a lawyer, maybe that is a cheaper route.

thank you.

I'm not a professional welder not even a very good amateur but what they have done is just plain and simple , "pooh". Sorry that you have had to find out the hard way though . It must be harder to weld a panel in badly than it is to do it properly. As for covering holes that's just cowboy work. Hope you get summet sorted with the rest of the van. Daz

Ask them for a receipt. If they say no because it was cash etc, then tell them you'll ring Hmrc. I know someone who did this and they suddenly caved in.
A bit underhand I know, but you've been tucked up nicely.
Good luck :ok

Pay a visit to your local CAB for further advice. You can persue them through a small claims court. I haven't done it myself but I believe that it is relatively easy and not to expensive if you do it yourself. The CAB will point you in the right direction.

Send them a well-worded letter with what you want them to do to rectify the situation.
Include a bit about what you will do if they don't play ball.
Putting stuff in writing usually does the trick.
