Hi all,
Hoping someone could shed some light on my problem.
Went to start the van on Saturday, it's a 1.6TD 1986 Autosleeper, the engine was turning over but not firing up and lots of smoke churning out of the exhaust. The nice AA man visited and did lots of tests and eventually after checking the air filter he found it was full of water. Removing the filter seemed to cure the problem and eventually the van started and the smoke output reduced after running for a while.
Obviously I need a new filter but first I need to figure out how the water is getting into the air filter housing. The pipe from the snorkel to the vent was changed a few months ago so pretty sure the problem lies elsewhere.
Please help as the van is now parked up until this is sorted.
Many thanks
Eric

Re: First call out to AA
as a temporary fix why not just disconnect the air filter housing hose so it sucks air straight in from the engine bay? (With a new filter fitted of course).

was there a problem before the hose was changed? been pretty dry until recently so might have only showed with recent wet weather

Is that the hose to the snorkel or the lower hose ?

The hose to the plastic housing the air filter sits in.Fande t25 wrote:1664 wrote:as a temporary fix why not just disconnect the air filter housing hose so it sucks air straight in from the engine bay? (With a new filter fitted of course).
