Fog light Dash tell tale light

Post by biker1981 »

My camper T25 has failed its MOT on a few things but also the tell tale light on the fog light switch doesnt illuminate. The bulbs looks ok.

Should the bulb have a seperate power going to it at the back of the switch ? as currently it doesnt have any wires going just to the bulb? I tried to run and earch and a live of the battery and the bulb didnt light up... any help appreciated.

The fog light switch is E23 and the lamp is K17 in this wiring diagram. As you can see the 12v supply to the lamp is made internally within the switch itself, the return path to earth is attached to the lamp at the rear of the switch (the brown wire plugged into the black plastic socket in the pictures).

Not by me, never touch them. I use insulated through crimps. Probably to do with the tow bar electrics as that is the only other wiring I've see them used on.

Hi,
Just replacing the fog lamp switch.

Did not like the installed which was a pull switch with what looked like a illuminated jewel on the top of the stem.

The replacement rocker switch has the terminals as identified on the diagram.

The cables to this are 2no green and black and 1no inline fused (7.5amp) orange!!!!!!!
Although I can switch the single rear fog lamp I cannot seem to be able to illuminate the switch (bearing in mind I'm doing this in the day time).

Not yet got a manual and being a newbie.

It will not light up without an earth!

Yes;

I understand this, having two cables of the same and an orange which does not seem to concur with the wiring diagram, I'm slightly flummoxed.
Can someone while I save up for a manual----let me know of the colour code for the connecting cables attached to the fog lamp.

Which lamp? On the wiring diagram I posted at the start of this thread (click on it to allow it to be enlarged more), L20 is the rear fog light (grey/white cable) and L22 & L23 are the front fog lights (white/yellow cable).

If you mean the indicator lamp on the switch itself (K17) then this is fed internally by the switch and just needs an earth connecting for it to work (0.5mm brown from switch terminal 31 to earth connection 20, current track 142).

Hi,
It's the rear fog light which works with the switch, the indicator light within the switch does not illuminate .

As above I have two green and black which I believe flank the supply which is orange and has an inline 7.5 amp fuse. The centre blade on the rear of the switch has a surface track to the internal bulb.

One of these two must be the earth for the internal light, the other for the rear fog lamp.

I'll have a look with the instrument panel off the dash tomorrow to see if both are earths.

The rear fog lamp itself is (should be) earthed in the engine compartment.

Hi,

Looked at the earth to day and found it unsatisfactory ......makes new earth.

Now every time I install the inline fuse it blows.
Now...I have two green and black cables of which one converts to an orange with the inline fuse.

Another is traced back to the light switch.

The new fog lamp is marked
1/. +
2/. 83a
3/. 83b

Now what ever I do I can't get the indicator lamp to work.

The feed must go to I assume 83b as this also has the track to the small lamp....is this right as the attached diagram.

What should the + terminal be routed with, am I to assume that the + marked terminal should be the earth.

I read it as:
83 "in" is '+' from light switch via relay so that it only comes on when lights are on (as it should be).
83a "out" is front twin fogs. (if you have them)
83b "out" is rear single fog.
31 is earth.

Easy enough? You are creating a direct short with what you are attempting. Just follow the diagram.

Hi,
Cheers, the terminal 31although not on the switch I am assuming is the very small terminal on the bulb.
Too many green and blacks and the odd orange behind the dash binicle has confused.........now with a good earth, which can be utilised behind the dash. Once I replace the fog lamp illumination which I also broke, then all is well with life.

Note to myself get hold of a good manual......any advise?
