Panel protection

Evening all, starting to buy materials needs for the replacement of my rear arches. I'm hoping for an opinion or two on what coatings people are using on the underside of the new panels. So many products to choose from, I'd just like to hear what your preferences are.

i use red oxide primer or a stone chip called body 950,both work well,ive just replaced the outer sill on my camper,done the filler work (which is ok)and sprayed it in body 950(ripple effect stone chip)then painted it .

I was being facetious. Hopefully, some of the more prominent posters on here will honour me with some sage advice. I won't be cutting the arches off until Monday as I need to use the van at the weekend and I don't think pedestrians will like the gaping aperture left after the arch has been removed!!!

why? as long as your wheels dont stick out and no sharp edges then leave them to get to like it

Mm, the look that you describe may appeal to some, despite my van not being entirely original (maestro headlamps), I'd rather the body resembled a panel van rather than something out of Mad Max!

What's your preferred method for protecting the inside of the panels? Cheers, Mitch.

Yes Paul, you've missed the point! However, you may not be alone which means that I've not made myself clear.

It's not the method that I'm hoping to get opinions on, more the different products that people are using to coat the panel. Does that make things clearer???

Ps. Should be back down 'our' way in a week or so. Have bought a Tig that needs putting to good use - got anything that needs welding????

Is that before or after welding?
Seem to remember reading you can get weld through primer

Will need some arches myself one day but I want to see you van first

Weld thru is for mating surfaces. I mean the entire panel that will be exposed to the elements thrown up by the wheel.

Can't help thinking that having welded it rust could always come back so better to be able to inspect rather than coating it with bitchumen as so many do.

Yep, I agree which is why I'm after some of the more experienced opinions on what best to do. Dinitrol has always been a favourite of mine thus far.

I use weld thru primer from built hammer then usually seam seal a lot before using dynax also from bilt hammer.

Acid etching epoxy primer, then brushable seam sealer and then brush on a coat or two of tractor paint followed by some Dynax UB.
