Radiator fans is it on permanently ?

Post by sternal »

Registration finally arrived today ! Hooray

Took it for a spin as you do !

Is the radiator fan permanently on a very low setting ? I put my ear to the rad and it sounds like its going round though I can't be sure as I thought it was the sound of the engine but it cant be as its to far away !

Obviously on my car I can hear/see it when the fan kicks in !

no..
1st speed is about 87 deg.. secondspeed is 97 or something like that
the rad fan switch decides all that

Even on 1st speed these cooling fans are pretty loud. I can't imagine for one second having to strain to hear if it was on.....are you sure it's not the 'blower motor' inside the cab that you are hearing?

engine running did all the tests and no fan, dropped the spare wheel

checked fuse first on left and that's fine

[

the van isn't over heating but I obviously would want the fan working !

can I connect the fan direct to 12v ? via leisure battery ?

check ground where and how ?

any other checks ?

is a new fan a big job ?

The fan motors are generally reliable so more likely a wiring fault...earth point issues.
Try giving the fan a direct live & earth

That looks like an indicator relay.

No.5 relay is marked "53" top row, 5th from left.

ok so there isnt no.5 relay in...

Image

I take it it should be there for the rad fan to work...and is this the reason I couldnt trigger the fan to work ?

why would it be missing ?

If you have a 2 stage fan that is the 2nd stage relay and the main one is that 70A one above the earth crowns. If you only have a single speed fan no.5 should be the only one that you have. Either way there should be a relay there as I see it. (I would have expected it to be a 2 stage fan as you have 3 pins on the connector)

70A one above the earth crowns

thats not there and doesnt look as if it ever was

so if i get a no.5 relay the fan should work when I do the rad fan test ? (if all wiring is okay... )

So long as the wiring hasn't been interfered with you will then have a better chance of getting to the bottom of what is going on. Have you got 2 or 3 wires going into the switch connector? Have you checked for any voltage at that connector?
