New rotor arm increases revs limit
I put a new rotor arm in and noticed that the rev limiter doesn't cut in quite so quickly. Certainly helps when negotiating steep and twisty hills; I can hold onto lower gears for longer without swapping up and down the box.
It makes sense because I suppose the spring overcoming centrifugal force is 'stronger' than the old one.
Could be a quick fix for new owners who feel there is a lack of 'power' going up hills?

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
the quick fix is to fit a non limited rotor arm!
you can get different settings for different vehicles / engines
the t25 one is 5400 bay window / beetle is set to 4800
perhaps you have had a 4800 one fitted.
better for the engine , you shouldn't get near the limiter with general driving , but that's why vw fitted them originally I suppose!

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
That sounds right. No idea how old or where the old rotor arm was. Had it seven years since we bought the van.
I usually change up on the 'bike about 9500rpm so find the van a bit 'low revving'.

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
As above, I run with a bog standard bay or 70s beetle rotor for the same reason and my engine seems happier on that. I had too many occasions during overtaking where the rev limiter kicked in which seemed far more dangerous (at the time) than any potential for engine damage. Dizzy cap too is from a bay after endless trips to GSF who listed four or five sets of leads that should fit a 1.9DG - none of which did (too short). Now I use a half-breed setup for the ignition and normality (and performance) is restored. Its also cheaper to replace and easier to obtain.
I can see the merits of a rev limiting rotor, particularly if a driver is new to T25s but it just doesn't suit the way I drive, or my engine. Less chance of breakdowns too. Horses for courses I suppose.
Mind you, if you normally drive with the stereo blaring and can't hear the engine, a rev limiter is probably essential. In my case, I ditched the stereo and just listen to the engine now - it plays a nice tune.

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
Most of us binned the silly rev limiter years ago, or glued the moving parts up if needs must!

Just out of interest, how many members have fitted rev counters to petrol T25's?

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
How do you know if your rotor arm is limited or not? I just replace mine when I service it but don't specicically ask for a rev limited one (off GSF), just provide engine and reg plate details usually.

power tails off very quickly as you approach where the limiter would cut in , so not much point trying to hold it up that high for extra hill climbing oooomph, IIRC around 3800 - 4200 rpm for max HP. Change up and let the torque pull you

Re: New rotor arm increases revs limit
My van has got a rev limiter rotor arm but the I change gear as the speedo reaches the dots on the speedo, so it never cuts in. I haven't got a rev counter so I don't know how high the revs are?

That was the point. It was cutting in earlier than I would have liked. It felt like before max torque was reached. No idea what revs.

sorry to hijack the thread, but can you tell me at what mph the gear change indicators are on your speedo?

I thought the stereo was when you had both front windows open to hear the exhaust through both.
