T25 square headlight mot failure.

Post by Pete.Jaime »

Hello everyone, i need help. My T25 wesfailia has just failed the mot for its lights being to dim.
I cannot source another pair for love or money. Jk have discontinued them and there are none on eBay.
Does anyone know who would stock them, or know if they can be taken apart to fix. It's the sqaure ones I am after.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Did they test them with the engine off 'cos the headlights deliberately dim when switched on without the engine running/ignition on.

And they're not a sealed unit either, the lamps are removable from the glass etc

Hi, they were tested with the engine running. The back reflector is discoloured.
But, if they can be taken apart I may be able to clean or have them plated again.
Thanks for your replies.

Have you tried installing brighter bulbs like Osram night breakers? They might get you through the MOT while you search for another lamp.

RHD dip beam units are rocking-horse poo, with prices to match.

But finding LHD ones shouldn't be an issue, and the MOT man's happy with a beam bender sticker at worst. (Ours has had three UK MOTs without any sticker)

some on ebay now, HERE
They have cracks in the lenses so they'll be going a lot cheaper, but you can swap your lenses onto them. Could be the perfect answer for you if the reflectors are good :ok

Just re-read your post and noticed:

Do you mean the main beam inner units, which are square? Or the larger dip/main outer, which is rectangular?
If it's inners you need, they are same as Scirocco main beam unit.

Another idea is to just get a set of round headlights and a grille from the breakers, and put the van in for MOT with those fitted. When you get your square ones fixed, swap them back.

You can clean the units out, see:

Other than that, the easiest is to put some Osram Nightbreakers as others have suggested.

Hi all.

We have taken them apart and cleaned them. ended up putting 100w instead of the 55w bulbs in just to get the brightness. There is a problem though, we can't get a beam pattern out of the offside light.
As the lights are left hand drive ones, and there are none online anywhere. I'm going to have to completely change them and just get round lights and new grill by the looks of it.
Plus my lights are the different rectangle ones if you know what I mean, as all my lights on the front are 4 large rectangles and not the usual rectangle and sqaure configuration you usually see on the T25.
can anyone suggest where I can get new grill and round lights for it?

Thanks again for all your suggestions so far.

The plot thickens......as usual, info comes in dribs and drabs lol.
Sounds like you have the near useless US spec lamps or aftermarket project zero's?

Similar to these by any chance?

If so you're always going to have trouble with the MoT or finding replacements.
Fit standard RHD round headlights or buy a set of LHD twin headlights and fit beam benders.

Yes very similar indeed! Okay thanks, I shall start looking for the round headlights and grill.
Unless any of you lovely people out there have a set knocking about in your garage?
Thanks again!
