What's it called?
Hello,
I have noticed when removing and checking over my starter system that the wire with the spade connector on from the starter motor to the alternator is quite badly damaged at the alternator end.
What is this wire called? I can't seem to find one on the internet but I feel my searches are abit random.
Could anybody please point me in the right direction?
Thank you.

Re: What's it called?
1.9 What Petrol I assume
Don't think it has a name, it's just wire but it's confusing to me as there is not a spade on the alternator to stater wire they are ring terminals.
Are you looking to replace it and want to source the right wire?
if so then CSA Cross Sectional Area can be found in haynes ( probably 6mm2) then you will need the crimp terminals, M8 on the starter end I think and probably M6 on the alternator.

It did indeed dave
Yes I was thinking of buying a new wire but think instead having had a natter with some people I will just make up a new one at work.
save a few pennies
Thank you for your input guys

Re: What's it called?
spades (push on) are for early vans >55amp alternators
eyelets / bolt up connections on later vans when 90 amp alternators became an option as spades don't like the extra power

my 55 amp alt was fitted after the 45 failed.

55 or 65ah? whichever it is I know that late versions also came with eyelet/stud fittings....not just the 90ah versions.

yes , that's just to standardise the wiring looms
I presume its also why there is such a big starter connector / stud as well.
