temp gauge reading

Evening all, changed the thermostat and rad switch on the bus today (old stat was staying open I think) and now the needle on the temp gauge sits at 3/4 up, between the led and 'bugger it's too hot' readings. The fan kicks in when it gets that bit higher again, nearly on the thick white mark.

Where does everyone elses' sit? The thermostat is opening because the radiator is getting hot, as is the return hose. I'm wondering if the temperature sensor is making the gauge read too high? I've just read about GSF sensors being a bit higher than Brickwerks ones.

Any other suggestions chaps?

Possibly got air in the system
Needle should sit just on or just to the right of the led but thet are all slightly different

mines the same! all works fine, no air in the system, the rad fan kicks in and out as it should. the only think i can think of is that the new stat just keeps things that little bit warmer.

Thanks for the reply chaps. Don't think there's air in the system, and the thermostat will only fit in one way. Surely if it was the wrong way, the rad wouldn't get hot?

How high should the needle be when the fan kicks in? That'll give me an idea if its the gauge reading higher.

Ahhh ok - assuming that they all kick in at around the same temperature (I think mine is 93deg), then that must mean that my gauge is reading high? Mine kicks in when the needle is just under the last white line.

My rad fan kicks in at 93 and was from brickwerks so i know its a quality one. i would say yours is like mine and its either the gauge is reading a little high or the thermostat isnt opening soon enough.
I have a friend that works for VW and has done for the last 30 odd years he seems to think that a lot of t25s were the same! saying that, ive read somewhere you can get a lower temp opening thermostat if you feel the need. since putting the new thermostat in mine and renewing the coolant and long metal front to back pipes. she's never missed a beat! ive done over 3k miles!

Sounds pretty much the same. Have you ever replaced the temp sensor?

E D I T: this is where the gauge sits after 20 minutes at 50mph, so fully warm ...

Thats exactly tha same as mine . Yes replaced the temp sender (again from brickwerks) on the thermostat housing and no differance at all.

Weird! Have you tried another thermostat?

No after 3k miles I don't worry. If and when she needs a new one then I'll do it then.

My gauge used to read straight up by lamp. Had to renew the temp sender and it now reads as yours does. I have left it that like as , so far, no real running problems.
