Draining and Flushing the Coolant know how

Post by hodgkinsons »

Hi All,

i've decided to drain the coolant on my AAZ powered Bluestar due to needing a new header tank, I've seen that there is some good info on refilling the system and bleeding it etc, but just wanted some advice on how to drain the system completely and the best way to flush it out.

So far I disconnected the two pipes which go to the bottom of the radiator and a certain amount of coolant has drained out but the header tank is still at least half full, I tried jacking up the rear and a little more came out but nowhere hear all of it. Am i going to have to remove the engine trays and disconnect a pipe at the rear? Also just a though but would it help to expel the fluid if I turned the engine over a few times?

Thanks as always for any guidance here guys. :ok

Yes got to take pipes off at the engine at the lowest points and then stick the hose on each pipe you take off and flush
Always best to remove the thermostat also
Probably never get all the water out so when refilling work out how much antifreeze you need and add it neat and then add water if you can

Don't turn the engine over gravity will do the job

Yes flush both ways if you can until it runs clean
A rag around the hosepipe will help to make a seal
