chrome wheel trim

Post by YOSSER »

we have just fitted a set of chrome hub caps.they seem to just snap on and feel tight, the problem is they rattle at low speed.has anyone else had this problem if so can you please tell me how to stop this rattle as we have enough knocks and clatters from the hanging pots and pans.

I had the same problem after I had my wheels powder coated and fitted the cheap trims, they made made the van sound terrible.
To sort it I used tabs of gaffer tape on the lumps on the wheels where the trims clip over, and a slim strip around the inside of the trim, it makes them more tricky to fit but quiet!

CHEERS FOR THE IDEA ILL GIVE IT A GO.I THINK THE HEAT FROM THE BRAKES MAY MAKE THE TRIMS EXPAND,THE RATTLE IS WORSE ON A HOT DAY . I MIGHT TRY DRILLING HOLES AROUND THE INSIDE LIP TO ALLOW THE HEAT TO ESCAPE AND COOL AIR IN AS THE WHEEL SPINS.

May be worth a try, mine rattled constantly from walking pace upwards hot or cold! It drives you nuts and makes the van sound like it's falling to pieces.[POUTING FACE]
