1.6 diesel cambelt

Post by sternal »

When the new van is on the road (still awaiting reg docs) I think the cambelt will need replacing as I have no idea when it was done the guy I purchased it from said it was a few years back.

As its a diesel I'm happy to give this to my normal car mechanic , what sort of time does it take? ? cambelt kit costs £35 from VW Heritage

Big job ? Medium job ? Little job ?

Cheers

It's one of the more straightforward cam belt changes. I would think a couple of hours for a professional, although it takes me a bit longer. You'll need a new cam cover gasket as well if the cam is going to be timed properly, and it's a good idea to replace the four Allen headed bolts that hold the crank pulley on, because they are probably rounded out.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
