Hi All,
As the title suggests does any one know the length of this cable, the one running from the rear through to the battery beneath the drivers seat.
the reason i ask is that mine is semi shagged and rather than removing mine and the van being off the road for a week or two i simply want to replace it.
Further i am guessing that this is one of those VW jobs that in theory should take 20 mins to disconnect both ends and reconnect the new one but is actually as fiddly as anything and will take an entire day to fit what with threading the wire etc etc.
Your thoughts gratefully received. thank you
Andy

Re: Starter Motor to Battery cable length
Its a hell of a thick cable 70mm2 I think
I'm not sure how readily availble it would be maybe worth checking first as most vehicles don't use a cable that long
I have seen a post where somebody used a number of standard thickness cables
Perhaps a second hand from a scrapper?
Because of the thickness you really need it exactly the right length so a cable maker will probably want the old one to copy

Re: Starter Motor to Battery cable length
Thank you for the response. looks like the old fashioned way . i will remove get measured up and replace!!
Our local second hand VW scrapper in Angmering is a joke, i asked for a price for the small loom between the alternator and battery and they quoted £65 + so went to a chap called Peter Good of Volksgoods and he made it up brand spanking new for less than a third of that price. plugged in perfectly and works excellently. just need this extra bit to sort it all out. ideally the length so i can get Peter to sort it.
Thank you for making the time to message

Nothing difficult in making your own - you don't need to worry about old brittle secondhand ones then.

get to an electrical wholesale outlet like Edmundson or Lockwells or CEF or Wilts... they deal in cable.
