Broken bracket on down pipe: what is it?

Post by Winchweight »

I noticed this pipe has broken its bracket. It is on the near side of the engine bay, just above the exhaust and is a metal pipe connected to a flexible plastic pipe at the top, disappearing below the engine.

What is it? I need to order a replacement.

How can I get to it? Is it attached below the engine and do I need to remove the engine under tray, if so how?

Should say, it's a 1600TD MY1989

mines is broke as well but the hose was knackered asked on the site and was told its for drawing cold air from the turbo, followed the hose in behind the rear light cluster and it goes into a motor for sucking the air, cant get the bolt out so have it cable tied as temp measure.

if Im wrong no doubt i will be corrected lol

Bumping up!

Guys, I've searched Brickwerks, JK etc but can find no mention of this pipe. Anymore clues?

To me it looks like the cooling fan pipework for the turbo (syncro specific) part will be long obsolete I reckon. You could find the part number in vagcat, and then try to find it. Or ask someone who's gone td to tdi if they still have the set up spare. I still have the fan and the pipework for the D pillar in my shed, but unfortunately not the pipework. I wouldn't worry to much, the thing never comes on, it only works if you really cook the engine then turn the ignition off. The fan then blows cool air on the turbo

Ah ok. I'll ask around as I think I'd like to replace it anyway.
