Doka 1.6 Diesel

Post by Blip1973 »

Hi

I recently purchased a Doka crew cab 1.6 diesel and very unfortunately after a couple of thousand miles the engine has failed.

My question is that I would like to replace this engine with something a little more powerful and am stuck with no knowledge on a way forward.

I wondered if somebody could give me some ideas on a way forward etc

I also own a 2.1 water cooled T25 van of which I converted to a camper, but I unfortunately haven't any knowledge on the engine side of things

Please help!!!!!

Ady

Hi Ady, I think the best advice I could give would be to work out a budget first and go from there, as your van is a 1.6d ( I'm guessing none turbo ) your gearbox is your main stumbling block, as its so high geared

Both the engines featured in the links (1Y and AEF) will work fine with the standard 1.6 diesel gearbox if the budget is tight. Either engine would have enough torque to fit longer gearing, and/or taller tyres if required if budget will allow, or maybe at a later date.

You can buy a whole Skoda Felicia for £500 (ish), pull the engine, and get a bit back for the rest of the car, so cost should be less of an issue than most engine swaps!

Well thankfully with all your kind advice I have tracked down a 1y ready for fitting, will the original gear box from the donor golf be ok to use or will I need something different for updating the gear ratio

Thanks

Ady
