Subaru engine head oil leak

Post by chapperss »

Ok my svx eg33(The engine is the same as the ej2.2 with a couple of extra cylinders!)
has a small leak from the n/s head ,not the head gasket but the head cover gasket. is this a common problem? its only a drip or 2, so not too worried. But is it an easy fix? I have just tighened all the cover bolts ap a bit for now. But does the cover come of easy? it looks like it holds the cams in place though? thanks Steve.

Not many SVX owners on here chap. If its anything like my EJ25 the cover is just a cover, and seals with a gasket. I'd suggest replacing yours. Get a manual if you don't already have one.

Thanks. It looks like the leaks are coming from the seals around the bolts which hold the cover on rather than the gasket itself, so will get some new ones from subaru and see if it stops. Probably cant get a manual for the SVX but its very similar to the 2.2 so maybe its worth getting a manual for this instead. cheers Steve
