I'm having a similar issue with my 2 ltr Aircooled, although mine also seems to lose power if I go up even the smallest of hills, what makes matters worse is that it seems to be no better on either petrol or LPG. If just changed the plugs,leads cap and rota arm, but still no improvement. I have checked any air pies I can see , but as I have a singe weber on her,I don't have to many of them. Any suggestions? This Is doing my head in :oops:

Hi, I have had a similar problem with my '83 2l air-cooled, turned out to be an air leak at the manifold. This after I had chased the leak by every means I know; 'Molly' has L-Jetronic injection and a myriad of vacuum hoses, now all replaced. But the principal is the same: if it's a large air leak, she won't run, if it's a small leak, it will only have an effect at tick-over. It showed up as either stalling or the engine hunting.
Best of luck!

Ben Lawlor helped this weekend. We cleaned the crabs n jets, replaced my chocolate boxed throttle cable and changed oil filter it was full of carp. Still not running right on idle. Ben then looked at my idle cut off solenoid which had blue tape round it. It looks like the threads arent right so its slipping. He suggested I need it helicoiled.

He also sent me this amazing link. http://www.ratwell.com/technical/DualCarbs.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I really think this is beyond me

Ive rung my local Aircooled garage and they dont have the kit. Does anyone know somewhere local to Plymouth I can get this done.

Shesstill great on the flat and pulling up hills just lower revs slight hiccuping and stalling at junctions and approach to roundabouts.

I want to get this done before I go to Blackpool Sands.

Ima bit embarrassed to be asking having just read Ben 1985 thread so informative and complete.. wow

I learnt so much from Ben and was so grateful for his help and time

You could ask at Paul Inch Engine Services, but there might not be enough metal to helicoil such a small port on the carb? If the solenoid is working you could probably get away with just using a Loctite thread-seal to "glue" it in place. Did you check you are getting 12v to the fuel solenoids?

Ours was doing the juddering thing....I started a thread on this a few weeks ago. It would pop a bit too on full throttle up slow inclines too.

After investigation and help from members it was clear ours didn't have the air feed pipe at all or the vacuum pipe off the dizzy cap attached. Plus the fuel filter and line is a bit naff. I am yet to replace fuel filter and lines, all looks a little dodgy, but it does run smoother with the air feed and other pipe work now in place.

I have noticed that when lifting off and rolling at speed down a hill, in second or third, it overruns quite a lot with the odd pop and bang from the exhaust of unburnt fuel. I assume this is now down to timing and fuel mix off the regulator that's plumbed into ours. An exhaust blow isn't helping the smooth running but a tune up should sort it.

I just took a picture of my engine and the fellow members saw me right :ok

Ive contacted Phil Miller so hopefully she wil soon be sorted.

There are times when a girl has to accept that she just doesnt have or is likely to have the skills to sort my girl. I so admire you peeps that just get in there and sort it and wish i had your expertise.

But I going to learn. Myrtle is goin to be my baby for a long long time its 8 years so far and im looking forward to the next 8.
