Why should we stay away from chris cross motors?

I'm getting something done this week, is there something I should know?

To get a new water pump fitted and a bleed and refill its £156 (purchased the part myself but they will supply the coolant)

I thought that sounded reasonable so I'm booked in, let me know your thoughts on that price?!

Am in Enfield too, tried to get quotes for stuff from Chris Cross and they was rather rude. Have used Elite in Basildon and they been not too bad. Also used our local garage on Lancaster road, he knows VW diesels and as a general mechanic he is pretty good.

Got the waterpump and metal waterpipe installed and all looks ok so happy with that.

As for the bleed and refill I'm trying to get to the bottom of what anti-freeze they put in. As my over flow tank (the one behind the number plate) is still sucking in water and emptying I'm assuming theres ether still a leak or its just not fully gone through the system yet.

Ether way I rang up chris cross and they told me they used 'blue' anti-freeze they get in big barrels and i didn't need to know the brand because it doesn't matter as all blue is the same. I was asking because if i'm topping up the tank I want to be adding anti-freeze too not just water.

Bit of a dilemma as I'm doing a 500 mile round trip next week. Going to replace the expansion tank cap just incase the water cant get back through when hot and expanding. Hmmmmmm :?

I read here you should use red antifreeze and always have done, something about the engine studs rusting through. I'm sure someone will elaborate

I'm surprised that you are looking for a garage in North London. There must be a specialist mechanic closer to home in Middlesex. You may fine someone just up the road in Hertfordshire. That's where I had to go to get my camper restored. We must have a member in the area who can help. Anybody out there?
