Windscreen Washers not.

Windscreen washers packed up.
Suddenly.
I understand that its the same fuse as the wash/wipe function ?
Wipers work on that function, no sound of washer pump.
No water from pipes, jets clear.
Is it logical to go take a look at the pump ?
Fit new pump see if it works?

Or is there anything hould be checking first, especially if my logic is flawed.
Laying under front corner of van and wrestling with siezed bolts and a plastic container of washing fluid isnt my idea of a fun evening

I'd clean the contacts on the stalk switch with a bit of emery to see if that helps, they tend to fill with fluff and gunk over the years.

Wipers go across a few times when wash button is pulled back.
I thought that would mean the connnection at the switch end was OK .
Still check the switch ?

Probably your pump then. They do seize up - freed mine up by manually rotating it using a terminal screwdriver only for it to seize again after a few days. Brickwerks sell new ones but they have spade connections so you have to cut off the existing connector and crimp insulated spades on in it's place. Check there is a voltage at the pump connector (with someone holding the stalk switch on obviously) before you do all that to check it's not a wiring issue and you can connect the pump directly to the battery to check it's knackered too.

Not the nicest job but one of those 'one off' things so you shouldn't have to do it twice. Try not to destroy the water bottle thin metal screw retainers

I did that to fix mine. Wipers moved but pump did not work. I cleaned up the contact and it worked again.

That was though after I had removed the washer bottle as I thought the pump may have froze (it was deepest darkest winter). I needed 3 new spring clips for refitting the bolts as well as bolts as they snapped.

How much of the steering wheel and plastics etc did you have to remove to get to the contact ?
Just a bit dubious about taking apart all that stuff because replaced an ignition switch once and the plastic never went back correctly.

I removed upper and lower column shroud. Easier if you take the steering wheel off.

Was the pump.
Changed for a JK one, so will probably be doing it again in a few weeks time

Required tools for job :
Socket set
Large screwdriver
Plant pot.
Bowl
Pliers
Spade connectors
Bit of old carpet
Wetsuit .............. its always raining when you need to lay under van.
