accelerator cable/pedal probs

Post by saviogimmi »

Hi everyone, my van has not had many problems over the years! but yesterday i went out in her and couldn't accelerate, revs woulnt go up and really had to push the pedal to the floor to even move! So i thought the cable must have streched or got snagged on something. I tied the cable taking any slack out of it and this has worked as temp solution. I have looked at the cable and it all looks ok, is it possible for it to stretch all of a sudden? as it was fine the day before. I have also looked at the pedal, this is my only other concern as its a little loose where it bolts into the floor due to a big rusty patch! Anyone else had this problem... I have ordered a new cable just in case and will be welding a new piece in the floor this week!! I just hope this solve it. I do not know if this is linked but I also couldnt get it into reverse the night before cable porblem started, but know can.

Changed my cable on saturday and noticed at the pedal end a brass sleeve is held in place by a bolt. It looks possible for this to move if the bolt loosens. Remove the dust cover underneath and take a look the pedal tends to drop so make sure its pushed fully up before tightening.

Also check the cable routing at the engine end, mine goes over the gear selector lever and I remember thinking that it looks like it could foul there.

Hope thats of help. Grant
