Oil light flashing and buzzer sounds when rev engine

Post by gog »

Hi all,
I have a 1Y engine, serviced it a couple months ago, put in new oil (10w40) and filter and it was running fine.

My van hadn't been driven for couple weeks and Friday evening I drove it and it started fine as normal but as I revved it the oil light started flashing and the buzzer came on. ( engine would have still been cold)

So I switched it off and checked oil level which was correct I thought. (was told when bought the van that the low level reading is actually the correct level for this van as it now has a 1Y engine)

Started engine again, ok at tickover but again when drove it a bit or increased revs the oil light and buzzer came back on.

So I added half a litre of 10w40 and then started it and revved it with no issues, so drove home, about 50 miles sitting at 50 MPH without any issues.

Done some local driving Saturday and all was going fine until the buzzer came on again, I added another half liter of 10w40 and that again resolved the issue.

I checked the dipstick this morning and it is showing high reading, (oil level at the full mark, which is too much) so I don't think it is using oil, just adding oil stopped the warning.
So now I think I should drain the excess oil before I drive the van again as I prob have around 5.5 litres of oil in there now.
Any thoughts on what is causing the oil warning would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Colm.

Turns out the connection on the oil pressure sensor was loose causing the buzzer to go off.

Cleaned up the connection and secured it and no more buzzer !

Also, drained out the excess oil that I had in there, so hopefully all ok now.
