Hi All,
First chance I have had to poke around and found that the fuel inlet hose sits right on top of one of the metal coolant pipes. Cannot be a good thing, so as I'm replacing that hose I will re-route and see if that helps my hot start woes.
Thanks again John.

You could get similar probs on Beetles with 'heated' fuel pipes causing loss of power. Certainly worth checking fuel pipe routes as many years of repairs can change the layout a little.

There are some pretty ugly unions in there (will take a photo later) which signal that there's been some shoddy corners cut at some point. Re-routing it is!

All these niggles are fixable.
For example, that "chicken switch", for the overheat.
If folks want to fit one, then that their business.
Point is VW didnt make a van that needed one when it was new.
No need to compromise fitting one now.
Once everything is working as it should be.
