What does that engine actually weigh?

Post by silverbullet »

All a bit pub-quiz nerdy I know, but for a bit of light relief I thought that it might be useful to answer this question accurately, as it might be useful for the wiki at some point and I have the means at my disposal.

First up, the trusty 2.1 wbx. c/w flywheel and clutch, bone dry, single pulley, puny 45A alternator. No induction system, exhaust, PAS pump or a/c.

Almost exactly 90 kg (86 without the alt.) which is more than I had been led to believe.

To follow: 5 cyl Audi, Subaru EJ22 and hopefully some other popular swaps, I can always take the spring balance to the engine!

You're welcome to come round to mine in Richmond to weigh the 1Y that I dropped on my foot.
You'd need to bring the engine hoist too as I don't have one, hence dropping it on my foot.

I never even thought to weigh my 1Y before I put it in - I have a set of scales that go up to 200lb that haven't been used since I packed up fishing so much.

Might just do that! Let's get past the Busfest madness first...

PS @ Oldie, 200lb scales wouldn't be enough for a VW diesel 4-pot, that's what the wbx weighs!

interested to know what the audi 5 pots weigh..

I did a trip with an engine hoist, 2 audi 5 pots and an AGG GTi lump in the back of the panel van. My passenger had to remind me at every roundabout!

The Friday afternoon weigh-in

Audi 7A inline 5 20v. Inlet manifold but no exhaust m.fold, alloy sump, flywheel (10kg) no alt or pas pump, no a/c comp, no clutch, no engine mount brackets:

145kg. I thought that it would be more than that!

PS I checked with/without flywheel incase the scales are out of calibration, still 10kg difference.
