Clutch slipping 1.6td jx

Post by bowesy »

I'm having trouble with my clutch slipping at top end in 3,4,5, gears I can change gear with no trouble and pulls well from standing start and in 2nd gear but it slips in 3rd gear when I put my foot down I have bled the clutch but still no joy clutch was checked 2 months ago when engine was replaced it was nearly new I'm now thinking some sort of contamination but surely it would slip in all gears and all the time??. Any advice greatly appreciated

Yes possible contamination...are there any signs of an oil leak?
It isn't unusual for 'slipping' to be more apparent in higher gears....the engine torque is the same in all gears but this meets an 'increased resistance to turn' due to higher gear ratios.

And....unfortunately, that slipping can generate heat which both wears the clutch and weakens the diaphragm springs that keep the centre plate under tension.
