Yep thats them.
They can be a pain but the difference is noticeable. Vinnie now turns into a corner, rather than trying to go straight on!

Right I've got the new shouldered bushes in the anti roll bar link arms. What's the best way of getting them onto the roll bar itself? Past the shoulder and onto the 20mm dia part?
I tried pushing them on with a bit of lube but they're way to hard. Would pressing them on with a big vice be good. It's awkward because the roll bar is swept so no square shoulder to pull up on.

make sure the hole in the lower arm is free from rust/ debri

grease the roll bar end, grease the inside of the droplink


put the bush half on the bar

push the link half on the rubber

push , twist the link onto the bar!

simples 10 mins per side!

and make sure you put the washers the right way up on the drop link bushes, so many peepes get them wrong! - they cup away from the lower arm!

Thanks for the advice Billy. I made a press in the end out of an old vice and G clamp. Held the roll bar in the vice and then used the G clamp to press the link arm on over the shoulder. It was a bit fiddly and you had to keep it square but it was so much less effort than trying to push them on by hand.

I'll get some pix up tomorrow, got a bit dark out there to take any.
Now all I've got to do is a bit of welding and it's MOT time. Fingers crossed. :)

I've got the original Vanagon handbook which shows them this way round. And on all other vehicles i've fitted roll bars on they have gone this way.
The cup sits round the donut stopping it from spreading and the cup sits up against the shoulder on the drop link, this allows you to tighten up the nut as much as you want and it won't squash the assembly as the spacer bottoms out on the cups.

interesting to see your pictures as they are defo fitted the other way from new!

they are more like your original washer tho with a small lip, but still points away from the arm.

I had a search of the net and the literature i have on T25's and couldn't find anywhere that says which way up to fit them. It's strange that they go to all the trouble of making dished washers that are the exact internal radius as the outside of the donut washer but then expect you to fit them the other way up. From an engineering point of view i cannot see any benefit from fitting them tow up rather than fitting snug toe down over the donut ring.

The bush is facing a smooth edge with the washer fitted the other way round. As fitted in the picture the outside of the washer would cut into the bush?

True, plus i think the dishing is for rigid strength, a dish is stronger that just a flat washer. Hmmm i may need to refit them. :(

most people tend to fit them incorrectly!

they go by what looks correct which is not how they were designed to be fitted

presuming allowing for movement and a smoother edge to move upon?

I've followed this thread carefully for the last couple of days and managed to remove and replace all of the anti roll bar bushes with nice shiny new Powerflex ones from Brickwerks, including a tidy up of all component parts VACTAN and Rustoleum treatment too, then copper slip on all bolt threads.

I have now hit an impasse, how the blxxdy hell do you get the drop link bushes and droplinks bolted back onto their mounts (at the end of the radius rods)? I spent almost an entire day trying different methods to get them back on to no avail. :x

I have an early type with bendy droplinks and two-bolt arb mounting clamps. Is it me or is it just that the bushes are a lot stiffer and im a weakling? I can get one side finger tight but no-chance getting the other side on.

I guess you can sense my frustration!

Any help would be very much appreciated and apologies for hijacking this thread :roll:
