Ignition switches are common to pack up and are cheap to replace so I would try that first.
Also check the small wire onto your solenoid has got a good connection and the body earths are clean.
Good luck

Easy enough to change ignition switch. From memory (not one of my strong points).
Disconnect battery to be safe
Steering column cowlings off
Steering wheel off
Column switches off to get to small screw holding in ignition switch
Rebuild in reverse order
Job done

And......
Chisel off 8mm sheer bolt (usually quite loose) put the key in the ignition and turn to position 1 to retract the steering lock, gently knock the aluminium housing upwards with a plastic of leather headed hammer.
Then you can access the single Philips headed screw that holds the switch in place.

I would also be checking the conections to the solenoid

Agree with Kev. Its not unknown for the small braided earth wire between solenoid and starter to be so corroded that it only make intermittent contact and the act of moving around in your seat will sometimes resurrect the contact beneath the van (briefly), lulling you into a false sense of security. Ignition switch about a tenner, but you may need to physically remove starter and check carefully. Also the smaller blue wire that goes to starter solenoid can work loose or become corroded, producing intermittent connection faults. In fact, that wire is nearly always the culprit in 'dead starter' faults, but not the only cause.

Re: Key turns nothing 3/4 goes suddenly starts.??
I had exactly those symptoms.
A new switch cured it.
( best to go for a switch first rather than a starter motor in most cases, unless its Obviousley the stater)
Starter Motor = lay underneath van and spend £80
Switch = sit inside van and spend £10.

Yes.
The first new switch I bought lasted only 2 weeks.
Second one still going strong after 9 months.
I now carrry a spare.
Which is slightly more "correct" than a couple of pieces of thick wire
