Can this be removed?

Post by lhd »

It's rusting away to nothing and keeps depositing rust in the air filter box. I'm sure I heard its not really needed.
if so can I remove the whole system, as it seems to go from there to behind the rear light and back to the air filter box again.

Cheers Rob.

Probably something to do with emissions from a cold start, warming the engine up quicker and improving combustion.

Yes maybe.
I was asking because I really have no idea,
BUT
if VW stuck it on there in the first place, and we happily go ripping it out, then did VW fit it for no good purpose ?

I thought it was maybe a warming system for vans destined for colder climates than the UK or something, but if EVERY van has it, then should we actually be junking it ??

Mystery to me :|

Sometimes a little tendancy to 'overkill' perhaps, but never in my experience to no good purpose..

Except for 'wongy ' Aircooled flaps.... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

So maybe.... after all.... :?

VW, being a Global company would of done that of course.
What is interesting to "work out" is whether the UK spec engine originally had the warming feature fitted to it.
There are a lot of places warmer than the UK.
Thanks for "letting" me work it out, but I will pass on that one because I get the feeling that the clique on the forum( you guys know who you are ) have adopted a superior and sometimes condescending way of communicating.

Not quite sure I understand what you're on about BUT for what it's worth our's was taken out 7 years ago when we had it converted to LPG and it made not one jot of difference even in the highest and coldest part of England. I believe you'll find that most people running on gas take this out and I've never heard of a single issue ever.

Nothing wrong with asking an honest question ... to then question the replies from experienced members is just plain stooopid but the choice is of course your's.

Rather a defensive reply there Ian.
In the newbies opinion of course.
Experienced members = fine
Clique = not so good.

Consider. :ok

in my experience there is no clique on here, maybe you're being a bit defensive ? everyone here will help you , give you advice and tell you where, if you are, going wrong, I should know ive asked stupid questions (iolite bush on an auto starter motor  ) and I said something to mr hulley that I shouldn't have and promptly apologised , which was accepted and have been given advice still, this is a great forum and help is only a question away

There is a clique on here, in my opinion.
My opinion differs from yours.
But I wont shoot you down in flames for having it.
That would be a clique response.
Lots of good folks around, its when a group of the "established members" start roaming as a pack that the clique forms.
cliques do Forums no good at all, and should be outed.
