hi all what a last few days of being baffeled after a carb rebuild on my 1981 t25 1600 ct engine
today tryed to to get her started nearly all day checking setting on carb i even changed all fuel filters and fue thank pipes tank for any blokage
then :idea: i went right back to basics and checked fuel pump was sucking and pumping = nothing but its a brand new fuel pump its done about 20miles use
so i took it off pushed cam on pump and it sucks it blows :?: :?: :?: two big cups of tea 2 roll ups later i pulled out the push rod looked ok but a slight bure on the end i put a vernier on it & shock it had lost 3mm of the end it was new and the corect 100mm 20 miles ago :?: :?: :?:
now i got the fuel pump from vw heratage and at the time it arived it dident look the same as old fuel pump but phoned them up and thay said thats the correct one for you engine :?: :?: :?: :?: so i fitted it the type suppleyd was a type with built in filter and can be rebuilt .

do you think this is why the push rod broke 3mm off the end or was it poor quality 100mm push rod please feel free to give some advice
the correct fuel pump and new push rod 100mm odered today from jk :ok

There should only be a single fuel filter near the tank outlet on the offside of the van.

Get a Brickwerks fuel pump and the 100mm push rod from German Camper Co. I would personally be VERY reluctant to buy anything mechanical from Just Krappers.

Allways choose quality over price.
As VW have almost abandoned us the market is being flooded with poor quality parts.
there's a thread in here to use as a guide for quality parts.

hi m8 their is a filter on the return to tank from carb on a solex 34 pict 4 under neath van nearside

Why would you want to filter fuel that's already passed through 1 filter, presumably then by-passed the carb(s) and is destined for the tank again ?

Hi,

Was it the pump end of the pushrod that wore down, or the end in the engine?

If its the pump end, did you grease the pump lever arm before fitting - not much oil gets up there, so if you didn't it would have been in effect running dry.

Check also that the pump lever can move far enough into the body for the amount the rod stick up at maximum extension, to check that there isn't something mechanicaly wrong with the new pump.

I had a GSF pump wear out the lever in a few hundred miles, so some pumps are just poo. Got a Brickwerks one now and all is well....

a CT petrol pushrod is a mighty device.. to wear it down you will need a grinder.. :rofl :rofl

You've either got the wrong pump.. or you’ve broken the bakelite bit... or you've got the in out the wrong way round..

I am a heretic.. I use 2 petrol filters.... 1 (lhd ct) on the offside (for you) coming OUT of the tank..

Then the heresy.. another between pump and carb....

Go on burn me at the stake I just don't care.. I like to see that my clean petrol is getting to the carb

Make sure that the return line.. from the left output of the carb is in good condition back to the tank..

Keep plugging on..

hi m8 yes i did grease the inside the fuel pump cam and it was the tip of the push rod engine cam end that broke of 3mm and ho dear iv got new bits coming from just campers :oops:

few phots of fuel pump &push rod hi sarran the push rod was fitted tapered end to engine cam and the bakerlight pedatsall is ok not cracked
pumps works ok by hand push rod is now 97mm long ???????????hhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllllp :D please

just to add sarran the old fuel pump was a sealed unit & old push rod was worn by .5mm ie 99.5mm long should i fit old rod back in when i sort what the hell is going on think it might be an org vw part ??????????

surch me i dont know why but its how it was when i got the camper ?????????????????????????????????????? :shock:

Not detremental
just not nesessary and could cause fuelling problems if it did block up because of your rotting fuel lines.

VW did't fit it.
