two batteries!?!?

Post by G Dub52 »

Hello,

I have recently purchased a VW holdsworth high top and it has two battries, My first thought is, leisure and drive.

All 12v lights and ignition etc are all hooked up to the drive battery. The split charge works so when driving I am charging both batteries but I cannot trace anything of the second battery.

The first battery (which does stuff) is a big battery behind the drivers seat.

The second (which takes charge but does not seem to power anything) is behind the passenger seat and the size of a normal car battery.

Am I missing something here or is this normal? :?

In our Holdsworth the Leisure battery is connected to the Zig unit mounted near the wardrobe bit.
That then distributes power out to the 12v lights, water pump etc etc.
I wonder if a previous owner got rid of the leisure at some point - so moved everything onto the main battery then someone else refitted the leisure but didn't check to see that it was actually doing anything!?!?

So, are you saying that the only cable from the leisure battery goes to the main battery (via the split charge)?
Any chance that the wire is split off somewhere unseen and goes somewhere ??
Keep searching??
Have you got a Zig (or similar)??

Hello, yes there is only the split charge and relay between the two batteries. There is no zig unit and when I use the mains hook up it only works on the 24v plugs and the battery does not charge. I might remove the seat on the weekdn and try to chase the wires back. I spent the night away in the van with lights on all night and cd player etc and it did.t touch the battery so I wasn't sure if it was a back up or something?

It's got me somewhat baffled
