Diesel won't start

Post by uncle monty »

Hi there!

Van's been starting really well until last week. Now good turn over but no fire up.

Bought glow plugs, glow plug relay and 50 amp fuse to replace existing items

Is there anything else that could be the problem?

Such as dirty filters?

I've not had the van that long

thanks for your help

Change the fuel filter, check no air is getting to the pump.

Have you tried using the cold start handle?

He thinks you mean a cranked starting handle methinks and not the "choke" looking thingy.

oops! sorry I thought you were goofing with me OBG

Not sure where the cold start is? Would engine temp sensor be an issue?

Also put a new glow plug relay and the glow light doesn't go out.

Put the old one in and it does go out.

In both cases, the engine wont start.

Any thoughts?

thanks

The little handle by your left knee - you pull it out for advancing the pump timing on cold starts.

hehe I too thought you meant a cranking handle OBG.

are you getting 12v to the pump solenoid and 12v to the glow plug rail ?

are you parked on a hill downward facing with little fuel in the tank ?

if you are ....and you are ...and your not ... then ....crack open one of the injector pipes on top of an injector to see if fuel is getting to it....just a crack should wet the threads on the injector if it is when cranking

I remember having to crank over my father's Rover 75 - that was a hefty engine to hand crank.

First car a 6 volt Renault 4 with optional crank start.

Used it once only!

Once again, thanks for the advice
