Dam and blast. I cant get the boot open!!!

Post by browneyes1311 »

I had to change some air lines today and to my frustration I cant get the blasted boot open.Yep I got al hot n sweaty climbing into back heaving engine compartment lid up and over rock n rol bed and lying down fiddling.

Ive squirted WD40 into the dam lock. It turns to vertical the blaste thing goes in but no matter how hard I push thump heave it wont open. I ve tried wiggling the key to left while depressed in and also to the right and the b**ch stil wont budge.

Any suggestions folks before Plymouth gets flooded with my tears of frustration.

My tail-gate is locked with the key vertical, and un-clocked with the key horizontal.

Ive tried both. I presumed being a simple woman that when i put key in and turn it and then the shiny thing depreses that that is the correct unlocking position.

Ive even laid on my back on the floor inside and as someone else fiddled lifted my legs up and gave it a good thump.

Still no joy!!

Mine is the same, 50% of the time i can turn the key, press the knob in and it won't open. It does open when i put the key in and jer jer jiggle it about a bit before removing the key and pressing it in.

PM me if you want to try my keys, I'm in Plymouth. Once you've got the tail-gate open you should take the lock apart and clean out the barrel & tumblers.

:rofl I inadvertently made it to The Out of Context thread. Nice one guys.

You will be pleased to know that Boxy very kindly came round this evening and after a lot of er fi no thats not the word turning and pushing and scratching of heads, thumping and pushing on the tailgate, it suddenly sprang open.

It now, touch wood, seems to be working but for how long is anybodies guess.Another thing to ad to the list of To Dos

So thank you Boxy you are a very kind gentleman and it was a pleasure to meet you too.

Im going to drive to Poole knowing it is possible to open it.

I have just remembered that I had this once - something had caught in the lid along the bottom and the only way that I could open it was by putting a lot of pressure onto the lid so that there was no tension on the mechanism. It may be worth moving the catch outwards by a couple of mm if it happens again.
(Can't wait for the descriptions next time it occurs. )
