Radiator fan - update - working fine again

Post by Ralf85 »

Hi guys. My rad fan sounds like a cement mixer when it kicks in, so I am assuming that the motor bearings are kaput. I cannot find anything on the wicki that helps so:
1) Is the motor integral to the fan on our vans or is it separate? If it is separate, is there another rad motor that I can get to replace it as I cannot track one down for my van?
2) If it is integral, is there an alternative fan and motor to replace it? I am guessing it should be one that fits other vehicles in the VW range, or maybe not.
Cheers.

Cheers James. That's really helpful. Is there a new option out there as an alternative to a used one?

Update. I was about to replace the fan and guess what. The cooling fan has been running smoothly again for the past few weeks. These vans do keep you wound up!
