2.1 dj buzzing noise!
Hi all. This may sound a strange question but, when I turn on the ignition I used to hear two buzzing noises, one after the other and then it would stop and I would start the engine. I now can only hear the buzzing noise once followed by what sounds like a jammed solenoid (similar to a transformer hum). I always thought the two noises were the fuel pump pressurizing the system but im not sure now. Any ideas what to look for? Thanks in advance

1st buzz is fuel pump, continuous one is idle air bypass valve, that's normal, depends on valve as to how noisy it is

Yeah that's what I thought but, (theres always a but!) the pump used to do it twice as well as the valve. Valve still buzzing as normal but fuel pump only energizes once now when before it always did it twice. It just sounds like a stuck solenoid, at first I thought it was the starter but it turns over as normal. Trouble is I cant locate the exact position of were its coming from. Could it be a fault on the fuel pump? Should the pump only do it once anyway? Cheers

Re: 2.1 dj buzzing noise!
pump normally only runs once before start up, basically it pressurises the system and then stops, once the van starts and fuel is used it runs again but with the engine running you can't hear the pump running
the fuel pump is controlled by one of the two relays in the black box on top of the coil - is it one of them sticking ? Maybe the relay was failing hence the two attempts to pressurise the system

Thanks Aidan for the advice, will have a look at the relay before anything else. Cheers!

My 2.1DJ buzzes twice, has done for the last 45,000 miles.
Its not the idle valve, that's really quiet.
