For that money I assume you will be taking it back to be finished properly?

Thats shameful ! If the job was actually done properly then yes maybe ... its a lot of money but things can go wrong and take time to fix, but for any mechanic to release a vehicle with such fundamental problems is just plain wrong.

I found this place quite close to mine, it offers reconditioned engines and a fitting price of £150. That seems remarkably good value, Ive no idea how good they are but just wanted to highlite the difference to what you have paid.

As said, if the job was actually finished then maybe.... but basically all he has done is bolted it in place, no set up , as for not bleeding the system thats like a surgeon not bothering to stich a patient up after surgery . Bad things could happen !

Did you pay by credit card? if so there may be some recourse through them ? paying for a service but not actually getting value for money . Im no expect so take advice from citizens advice before going down that route , if you can.

Good luck.

Hi peeps, Sorry ive been away for a while and neglected posting. Martin i paid cash to the first guy so wont hold my breath on any recourse lol. Good news though is I finally got my van into Davis Mylett (Thanks Mick) local vw man in whom i have total trust. He has fixed the cutting out ( live feed wire was missing ) oil leak, bled her properly, mot and welding dont all for a very fair price. :ok Unfortunately in my wisdom????? I stuck in two new bulbs and switch which promptly melted and damaged dash circuit. I have replaced old bulbs and switch as a temp fix but my next quest is now to upgrade headlights and replace dash pod circuit. Arghhh!! the word fool jumps to mind.

Good luck bluebell... for sticking with it.

The price for fixing your car's wee fault looks like he's a bit of charlatan. I would make him aware you are far from happy that the job was unfinished... the only excuse would be that the engine was not a good one or there were fundamental problems with the installation in the first place.

Ask for a refund on that basis... unfinished job as another garage has itemised.
