Roof rack fixings for Westy

Post by Mr Soft »

I'm looking into the idea of carrying Kayaks on the poptop roof of my Westy. So if anyone has any info on the mounting brackets/fixings (how they attach, weight limite etc) & roof bars that are available, that would be great.

Thanks.

Thanks ColG. How do the bars attach to the poptop? Are they clamped or bolted through?

Hi Bob,

They are bolted to the side of the poptop, there are then removable clamps for fixing down to the rain gutters when travelling. I managed to fit them on my own, took about an hour.

The price is about what I expected but the postage cost from Canada does make them expensive but I'm glad I bought them. They are a proper piece of kit and the combination I've gone for means I can carry a roof box and surfboards at the same time.

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks. They doo look smart & more compact/neater than other varieties of rack. I'm just not sure about bolting through the poptop!

That was my worry too, but because where they fix you don't need to worry about leaking. Hard to get wrong also because you clamp them to the rain gutter before drilling your holes.
