Glimmering battery light at idle

Post by thehappyhippy »

Hi folks,

Just been on a round trip of the South West of England and the whole thing went without a hitch, until I was parking the van up when I got home. I noticed the battery light was just glimmering on idle. When revved the light went out.

I vaguely remember this from a VW we had eons ago.

Can't remember if with was a bad earth (9 times from 10) of a dying alternator.

1.6td 1990 and it had been raining a lot.

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are: the fault needs investigating

See what the charge rate is across the starter battery and the difference between when you have a dim ignition light and then when you take the revs up a little.
Yes...earth leads, battery cables etc.

The most likely outcome would be that this is a faulty regulator brush pack or just plain worn out brushes. (available from Brickwerks)

Thanks Martin,

I'll do some investigating.
