8mm coolant pipe spec?

Post by CJH »

Quick question - just spotted a small coolant leak from the short pipe that links the inlet manifold heater thermoswitch housing (8mm pipe fitting) to the main coolant pipes on the rear bulkhead (1.9 DG engine). It drips down onto the inlet manifold, so evaporates quickly and normally there's no sign of the leak. The existing hose is cotton-braided rubber. Just wondering if I can use an offcut of the 7mm SAE J30 R6 fuel hose left over from my first attempt at doing the fuel lines last weekend. Will fuel hose stand up to the additives and the heat in the coolant water?

Thanks
Chris

Mine had fuel pipe on for ages until I got some water pipe from brikwerks to replace . They said fuel hose is no good for the temperature and chemicals in the coolant. My hose is now unbraided. (I was trying to keep it looking the same) They had no braided coolant hose!!!

Thanks - as a quick fix I tried a length of the fuel hose. It went over the fitting on the thermoswitch housing ok, but I couldn't get it to go over the plastic fitting in the union between the main hoses - that fitting is a bit bigger than 8mm, and quite short. I gave up and will have to get some of the proper hose. In the meantime I pushed the old hose a little further onto the thermoswitch housing and did the clip up a bit tighter, and it seems ok at the moment.
