How to identify Resistor on PCB

MODS: Please can I ask you to leave this in general for a while today please. I've only got today to sort van for the weekend so need a quick answer.
My temp gauge isn't working. I've tried various things and established I am getting power to the 'input' side of the resistor on the pcb. There is nothing after that. I temporarily connected a wire to bridge/override the resistor. My gauge needle moved over to hot. I therefore assume my resistor is kaput. Does this seem logical? Also how do I correctly identify which one I need to ask for as a replacement.

There we go. Sorry for lousy pic. It has written on it what looks like 2U2 63V There are two dark blue stripes running at an angle at either end and a single black stripe running around it. Hope this helps.
Looking at the link I am wondering if I have the correct description for the part. Also is it just crimped onto the PCB?

I've also found that it is, in fact, just crimped and it also has a + sign, JE and W5 on it.

I'm a little out of my depth here - maybe someone else can help. A quick google for 2U2 63V suggests it's a capacitor rather than a resistor, and I'm afraid that picture isn't clear enough to distinguish! Also, I'm not sure whether shorting a capacitor the way you did to get a 'hot' reading necessarily indicates that the capacitor is faulty. We really need someone better qualified to chime in here. In the meantime, any chance of an in-focus photo?

Re the crimping - do you mean the body is crimped, or the legs? The legs would usually be soldered I'd expect.

Hi CJH. Yes, its a capacitor Sorry for confusion. I got a live from the input side of the capacitor but not the output side so I am guessing that there is no current going through the capacitor.

Sorted. Maplins have one or two. 49p each Im going to get a couple of them. Extravagant or what. Thanks for leaving this in 'General' mods

You won't have any voltage on the other side of a capacitor - that is the earth. (save your money )
I have around 75 2.2 50v caps here but there won't be anything wrong with that one.

You will have to look elsewhere for the fault - crack in the pcb track or something.

Thanks for that. Already bought a couple Never mind. The fault was the 'other' sender unit. Wire had snapped on connector. Good call CJH.
