hi after a recent post topic of my engine missfire on a t25 1.6 ct air cooled engine i have realy learned a bit about this engine
and now confident i have fixed the ignition/timeing ht dist ect
now she idels prety good but just seems engine is slow to increase revs when you put foot down fast on accelerator
when van is from idle and warmed up but no miss fire or spluter just a dwell in responce
is this just a vw 1.6 ct engine thing or do i need to now look at carb gasket seals ect any ideas owners

Hello,
Welcome to life in the slow lane.....
Look below for some CT videos..
These are sturdy little motors.. classed as type 2b in Franc..
In standard form they produce 50 bhp (PS)
Properly set up they will do a good bit more..
There should be no 'drive through flatspot'.. this is timing or, eventually ..carb settings..
Long motorway 3rd gear hills are the killers..
Photos will help..
Do you have hall (boxes on the left side of the engine bay) ignition..
Over to you..
Cordialement,,

thanks sarran love the videos yes it has idle control module and amplifier its elctronic igntion but not as we know it capitan
i im pretty sure iv got timing about right its 4/6deg ATDC i had to guess revs about 800rpm with vacume pipes conected
i havent toched carb mixture its still factory sealed yellow waxy stuff on the screw but have done the basic setings choke ect
how do i check for any carb faults
i have only basic machinics but allways learning

Re: t25 1.6 ct engine rev dwell
ok update on rev dwell i burned the candel last night and read over again both haynes man and i have orig vw man
and when timeing the hals system if missed a vital part i read that i nead to conect toghether the two sockets on the idle stabilizer uinit
so today warmed up engine conected the two sockets use a seperate battery as sarran advised on vids for stobe timeing light
and ajusted timeing got it at 5deg ADTC and she now runs sweet and a big improvemnt in throtel responce
just need to go for a test drive

Hello,
That all sounds ok..
Hall effect engines start ok.. just don't play too much with the throttle after starting.. let it warm up..
Ok so have you got any popping or backfiring
....when over running in third down a good hill..(air leak check)..
any oil leaks
Have you done the tappets
Does it use oil...
Pictures will help..

Re: t25 1.6 ct engine rev dwell
at last iv sorted the rev dwell problem after doing timeing dist plugs ht leads i studied the haynes man it shows how to test if cold choke is correct and mine wasent right so adjusted as per haynes and YES at last when engine cold foot down start her up perfect choke last for 6 min then goes to idle revs great no dwell what more can i ask from this loverly 1.6 ct vintage air cooled girly caled MAIZY
