Re: second gear lag
when you say lag... can you explain more ? You dont mean that although the engine revs rise the speed doesnt increase ?? that would be clutch slip .

Re: second gear lag
I just had this and it turned out to be nothing more complex than HT leads breaking up. Perhaps they functioned better when I gave it some more revs, but in any event the leads were the cause. Slightly lumpy idle too though. If your idle speed is fine then you need to look elsewhere, air leaks, accelerator pump, that kind of thing.

Re: second gear lag
yes, I think that you need to check the basics, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm, leads, then fuel filter ( in case of starvation ) remember the one in the carb too... then check for blocked jets, maybe the primary ( then when the accelerator jet kicks in its better ) air filter , then check for air leaks... vacuum pipes, brake servo hose,
just re read your original post, its defo only in second gear ?? not an auto box ? strange.

Re: second gear lag
No only in second I changed the vacuum pump as it was broken and had read on here that would be why it was doing it but still the same . It's fine in the other gears though and if I press the accelerator nice and steady in second it's ok it's only when you put you foot down a bit hard strange really . Thanks for all the replies back to the drawing board then.

Re: second gear lag
Well it won't be related to the gears specifically, more a problem that occurs at a particular speed and rev range. As said check the above. If its run fine up to now, DO NOT change carb or dizzy settings. It'll be an electrical item breaking down, air leak or fuel blockage. If plugs and leads are old, change them.
