Good call Andy. The fault was in the sensor cable close to the sensor where it goes through a metal P-Clip. The cable has seen better days but I managed to repair it see - http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6005 ... bs-fix.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Hey that beats 156 euros fro a new one
Did all the fault finding on ABS control unit sensor connector under the drivers seat much easier than going to each sensor one-by-one. BTW plumbers flux cleaned the dirty wires in the core so I could get a good flow of solder.
Thanks all of you for your help off for an MOT retest
Rear Diff Lock Light now flashes twice on ignition on then goes out when the engine is started and the ABS light goes out. Any one got any info on the code the light might be indicating?

How do you test this? I guess by putting one probe in the pin of the connector for for each sensor and earth the other probe? Or are you looking for resistance bewtween each pair of sensor wires?
Resistance check will tell you if the coil inside is intact and normally that will be sufficient to diagnose a duff sensor..only way to test it fully is by scopeing the voltage output.
It has no earth as such, it's an AC output on these.

PS Van now has MOT
No idea! Does your van have a diagnostic plug for the abs? Blue maybe? The golf does...
Site seems to require one to register even just to make an enquiry ? That always puts me right off..
I think I'm lucky, but my local VW dealer has enough customers wanting things from Classicparts that they do group orders every month or so.
TPS..it's a trade only supplier...they aren't intrested in odds n sods for private individuals...that's the job of the dealer parts counter.
Your local dealer will order anything you want from classic anytime ou like but be prepared to pay the standard 25 euro shipping fee...the more folk want stuff, the cheaper the shipping by division.
