engine mod
Hi all can any of you please tell me is it possible to change a 2.1 i with electronic egnition to a non injection with carbs without having to change the whole engine.ive got a 1988 2.1i which is just on the cusp of change from a 1987 model (so i have been told) the engine its selfe is great, i keep getting told by the garage guys that its as sweet as a nut so i dont realy want to change a good engine if at all poss. Thing is the Afm has gone up the swany and you cant get a new one for luv nor money. There is one for a 1.9i available but no one knows at this point if it will work on a 2.1i so £300 is a lot to pay out if it will not any help will be great thanks Tony

Think there are a few people on here who have done that and swapped the injection for a pierburg carb. Good luck.

So get the one you've got now rebuilt... A quick google for "airflow meter rebuild" finds a raft of companies offering the service.
I really fail to understand why the hugely retrograde step back to a carb is regarded as a good thing. I _love_ injection. It's simple, it's reliable, it's easy to troubleshoot, it's massively more efficient than a carb.

Re: engine mod
can you put the part number for the AFM up? I think I've got one
1981 Vanagon Westy Burning oil as fuel...
Re: engine mod
Thanks Guys ill try that way then.
Id stay with injection if poss, if i can just get the parts, the engine its selfe is a sweet runner its just the other parts that go with it. Ill let you know how it goes. the part number is 025 906 301c.
Above the part number is another number i don't know if it is important or not its 0 280 202 079 thanks Tony

Looks like after all your advice, i think ive found a place in Essex that will recondition my old afm. They are ignition car parts ltd.unit 16 ilford trading estate paycocke road Basildon Essex. Ss143dr ive sent mine off to them and ill let you know how it goes the cost is altogether around £170 its cheaper than over seas and to post one with parcelforce with insurace up to £200 was £14.20p they said they wil phone when its ready for payment by credit card. Paying by card will give you more come buck if anything was wrong.
